Both Federal and State Laws govern the use of service animals in the United States. In the case that these laws differ, whichever law provides the greatest protections to the disabled individual is the law which applies.

Service Dogs in Training are not covered by Federal Law but are addressed by many State Laws. A few states allow for other species to be service animals, while Federal Law only covers dogs and miniature horses. Explore which ones by using the map below.
