Service Dog State Laws Map

State Laws

Easily see the service dog laws for your state by selecting your location on the map or the accompanying list.

Both Federal and State Laws govern the use of service animals in the United States. In the case that these laws differ, whichever law provides the greatest protections to the disabled individual is the law which applies.

The map is color-coded according to that state’s laws regarding Service Dogs in Training and public access. Service Dogs in Training are not covered by Federal Law but are addressed by many State Laws:

  • Blue – Yes
  • Yellow – Yes, but…
  • Red – No

Many of the yellow states only allow for program trainers or have similar restrictions, so read the details CAREFULLY and/or ask if you need clarification.
